Thanks

Nice entry
Isn't there still a railway museum at Carnforth? Might be worth a mention for the trainspotters out there

Good article The one thing I'd say is that, at the moment, it's more of a history of Carnforth than a guide to it.
I suggest two options:
a) simply change the title to reflect this
or
b) add a bit more about what the place is like today.
All the best,
Number Six

I disagree with #6's comment. I think the Entry is very good as it is. It gives the reader a pretty good impression of what to expect from Carnforth (i.e. a small town with picturesque surroundings and an old railway station). I mean... unless there's something else the author has omitted.
Good one.

I agree with you about liking the entry as it is, FF, but a guide is a guide and a history is a history.
It's a question of branding.
If I'm reading a guide to a place, I'd like to find about what it's like to visit and/or live in as a town - rich or poor, well-kept or unloved, friendly or unfriendly, what the shops and pubs are like, if there's anything particular or unusual to visit (except the railway station which is very nicely written about already), if there are any arts facilities (unlikely in a small town, but worth a mention)... all that sort of thing.
If the title implies that it's a history of the town, I'll enjoy this fine, well-written entry for what it is when I click on it. But if the title implies it's an all-in guide to the place - which is what I'd usually expect of a geographical entry on h2g2, I mean it *is* the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy after all - then as a casual reader I'd feel somewhat short-changed not to find the sort of information I mentioned in the above paragraph.
That is why I feel either the title needs to be changed, or the entry needs to be added to. All I'm saying is that I like it, and could we have a little more, please?
Sonorus - does the Flying Scotsman still live in Carnforth? I remember my Dad taking me to see it when I was about seven years old...

Oh I see your point now, #6 - Maybe your post above was just a bit too succint for me to get it right.

First off ...
Thanks all for the positive response, I must admit, the wording of the title doesnt present a particularly accurate impression of the contents. Consider it changed.
I would like to write more about Carnforth as it is today, but unfortunately, I'm a Carnforth ex-pat currently living in Hampshire, but hopefully sometime this year I'll be making the pilgrimage. Give me a chance and I'll move back in a shot, but the missus doesn't want to.

Hi Whisky,
Thanks for the encouragement! You're sort of right about the museum. It still exists, but has been closed to the public since umm 1997 i think. The reason being was that work in the yard/museum was on the increase and the decision to close it to the public was safety based. A great shame. I visited several times as a kid. If only I had realized back then the importance of a picture of The Flying Scotsman,Mallard AND Sir Nigel Gresley side by side....

Very nice entry Sonorus - nothing to add to what's already been said, and it shouldn't have any problems getting a recommendation for editing

Thanks again all for the comments. Err Whiskey and Number 6, thanks for the reminder about steamtown and the Scotsman, it brought back a flood of memories when I read the postings - see the updated article.
Does this mean I have to put you two down as included researchers? - Which incidentally, I have no problem doing if you would like a little credit.

In the case of Scouts, you don't have to - we're just doing our job. In the case of other Researchers - well, you don't have to either, although Dr Trout seems to credit evryone who comments, Scout or not.
Short answer, no

Nice entry, Sonorus,
It's a long time since I've been to Carnforth. I don't think I ever went into the Railway Museum. Pity it's now closed. I wonder what the impediment to opening it is - money probably!

I'll add my name to the praises, this is a nice entry about a pretty little town. Not been there for about 10 years, so disappointed to hear about the station being closed - I was thinking of taking my lad there. Guess it'll have to be Embasy.

Apart from a few typos - doomsday (sould that be Domesday?), famouse, and a few 'an's which sould be 'and's, this looks ready to go

Can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't consider the suggestions I've made in this thread anywhere near enough to deserve being credited with... thanks for the offer, but _you_ deserve all the credit for this one

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Well done!
My on credits for contributions in PeerReview is that it's only worthwhile for extra contributions to the article that the author wouldn't have known or thought of themselves... in this case, you've done all the work and deserve sole credit!
Cheers,
Number Six
