From what I have seen the inspectors are moving abot freely. There is one thing I however do not understand. How can they find Saddams WMD if he is really intent on hiding them? After all underground sites are fairly easy to contruct and the entry points could be hidden or incorporated in every day sites. Is there really any hope of finding anything that Saddam does not want us to find unless someone "spills the beans" ?

Satellite imaging. It's not like no one has been watching.

I realize that satelite imaging is very effective but there is a limit to how much area you can effectivly monitor. {and how much time on each area} After all you can effectivly store a pretty deadly bio-program in a few fridges} A documentary I watched on pbs a while back on the remains of the old soviet unions showed a shut down bio lab in ubekastan {excuse spelling} that was storing bubonic plague, small pox, influenza, and several others in sealed milk bottles in a 30 year old fridge.I believe there was enough present to infect over a million people in that one fridge. It was ungaurded.

Most people underestimate the imaging. Eg, with a geostationary orbit you can keep a satelite over an area for as long as you want.
Iraq is poor, it has s*d-all money ($20 billion less than my country with over 5 times the population). Where's he going to hide the supposed manufacturing equipment?

Did anyone read Noam Chomsky's essay suggesting that we support an Iranian invasion of Iraq?

Hint: the article is titled "A Modest Proposal."

Hiding missiles is one thing, but hiding equipment to make chemical and biological weapons is another. Hiding these is a bit beyond simply moving equipment. It's not easy to eliminate traces of toxins and bacterial agents: hence the lab set up by the UN inspectors.
The fact is that Iraq still has a whole bunch of tanks, aircraft, conventional weapons (albeit ageing). Why isn't anyone worried about those?

"Sixth, Iran can move towards instituting "democracy," again with credentials no worse than those of Washington, as a look at history will quickly reveal."
Democracy? surely he means theocracy? Does anyone actually believe that a theorcatic government in Iraq will help the middle east or the rest of the world for that matter?

Faithed-based investigations: don't worry about evidence, all you have to do is 'believe' who did it.

"Democracy? surely he means theocracy?" to quote you and you "Faithed-based investigations: don't worry about evidence, all you have to do is 'believe' who did it." - then add "no better than Washington".
It fits.

Neugen, I would guess that Chomsky meant to be ironic when he said that Iran could institute democracy in Iraq, especially since he wrote the word "democracy" in quotation marks. But the whole piece is satire, so it's hard to tell where he's serious and where he's facetious.
I think he meant that Iran (a theocracy) instituting democracy after an invasion of Iraq is about as likely as the US (Floridian representative "democracy") instituting a democracy in Iraq.

My favorite bit is where he says that Saddam 'used gas against "his own people": Kurds, who were his own people in the sense in which Cherokees were Andrew Jackson's people.'

Yes I agree that most people do not understand the technologic capabilitys of the Military. However there is a lot of desert out there. The other thing is he could have materials from the old Soviet
union that would reqiure little storage area.
The GNP is deceptive also as there is a large amount of black market sales that can only be estimated. Also saddam has a open checkbook to that money.
