loup, when I say e-mail yourself, >not just< from yahoo or any web based e-mail.
But from your POP3 mail, if you have it set-up.
In Win98SE I just set it to no filtering, otherwise it just does stuff like you describe. - Maybe I look at the n*ghty BBC TV listings to much

kat... an extra link is always handy..
tho' at the mo' it's extra time i need.. very bad timing this internet filtering prob... gonna have a few busy days and evenings on their way now due to Real life duties... which is not going to help me coming on here for a while with this problem on top... and i was so looking forward to post loads of links and all in various projects..
jab.. POP3... yep... just got my name on it so to speak... unfortunately can't use the PC for a while as the kids want to have their turn... and i can't use the digibox much either at the mo' as the deal was that having a PC would mean that i would not use the TVinteractive so much... not my week really..
anyway, gonna try that as well... as it seems that you had a similar problem that could be one solution... will definitely try it... nothing to lose and much to gain...
i will still install the helpline link tomorrow just in case something else happens..
thanks everyone....
hopefully next time i post will be to announce the good news... and without starred words this time...
i'm sure _one day_ i will laugh about it... it is funny in a way... hehe... especially when the filtering attacks some rather innocent words or expressions... the "c*cktail" becoming "tail" made me laugh... hehe... oh yeah there is another one: "methinks" becomes "thinks"... can't talk proper anymore with this intensive filtering...
talk soon everyone...
again...

Hi Loup, Are you still having problems with words being censored. It may be a censorship program to stop people accessing porn sites.
If you press ctrl+alt+delete( hold down contol and alt buttons and then press delete), a window will appear showing what programs are running. Its best to do this when you have the problem.
You can turn the individual prorams off by pressing end task, sometimes it takes a couple of ticks. It may take trial and error to find out which program it is. I often do this to turn off "save" ( a popup program with adverts comes with kazza). You may be able from the list of programs find it in windows explorer and turn it off from there or even remove it if its not essential. you can do that from add/remove programs in the control box found in my computer. Probably best at first just to turn it off. I had had several problems with my computer, lots of crashes. have you made a start up disk for windows95 yet , a good safeguard. Put some extra ram memory in my computer made a big difference and less crashes. Good luck computers are fun but can be a pain.

michael... i suspect that "cybersitter" is running as i followed all the instructions possible up to now... i've seen in a book that it's one of these programs that intensively filter the content being posted/read on the net.... so gonna try your trick asap...
talk soon everyone..

The problem [and others which added themselves to it] seems to be sorted at last.. I can now type "Essex Stories" without seeing part of it disappear.. same with girls.. adults... free.. etc.. Oh and cocktail is now cocktail not just tail...
to everyone... i followed all the advices given on here and other places on h2g2... plus some from the helpdesks on the web...
Not sure if all of them added together did the trick, but they certainly helped when i downloaded NetSonic as it took care of the settings somehow and took the info needed from the changes i've made based on the advices given... Anyway, it seems to work now...
Freedom of expression again at last!!!!!...
I've now got two browsers: Internet Explorer and Opera... I was going to download Netscape as well [would have done it sooner but Real Life duties did get in the way as well] as one of the pages where i've got NetSonic from had it for downloading there... The problem having been fixed somehow, i didn't.. but i might have a go later on... I like being spoiled for choice me...
Well, at least i'm back in full posting mode now...
Thanks for the advices...
Talk soon....

It's good you've got things sorted out. Having a choice of browsers will put you in a very good position for spotting pages which have problems with not-quite conformant HTML. I think the Opera browser is the one which people said couldn't view tables with empty cells (requires the use of invisible GIFs). Netscape used to have its own special set of features rival to Internet Explorer's but the BBC claim to be supporting mostly IE.
Speaking of being spoiled for choice, I've added pixel sizes to the smiley list on A1000008 for those people who prefer their images to reliably maintain their size on a digibox and for those who can't resist enlarging images.

SEF...
I really felt useless/helpless these last days as other problems appeared... now i'm back being myself at last..
Both browsers gave me hassles... but i did notice that Opera was the one with the most problems on HooToo... But, then again, that was before i downloaded NetSonic... will use Opera tomorrow and see if it still has problems with some of the things on here...
I will have a look at A1000008 tomorrow as well... I kinda overdid it on my <./>online</.> time tonight... but it was nice being able to read stuff on here without the intensive filtering on...
Talk soon everyone...
Thanks again for the advices...

Hi Michael... NetSonic helps accessing webpages quicker... It's a bit relative of course as my PC is a slow one anyway and still runs on windows95 [which means that i can't get blueyonder broadband..] but i did notice some improvement... The copy i downloaded is free which is great but has obviously a few things missing compared to the one we can buy... I will certainly buy the full copy later on, but for the moment it does the trick considering my financial situation [starting to improve as well by the way...]...
It also updated some of my settings in the process when i unstalled it... so i'm definitely happy with it...
If you want, i can post the link to the relevant page... or, if it doesn't meet the mods criteria [it is a commercial link after all] email me your email addy at [email protected] and i can do email the link from there...
One thing tho'.. don't email me today... i need to erase some of the spam i've got already... Hopefully i will have freed some space by tomorrow...
Talk soon...

Hi well my h2g2 pages have speeded up. I have been using adaware to remove spy and ad programs from my computer and avg to remove viruses, now it seems to be working ok. You can have too many programs running that will slow computer up.
