Is there anybody out there?

There are many people who smoke who don't really want to! It certainly is a very addictive behaviour. It does meet certain needs, but also creates its own needs and so persists even when the original needs are gone.

I'm not an expert on how to quit smoking ... I've never done it, so never had the need to quit. The people I know who smoked and quit didn't have much of a problem quitting, but I know for other people it may be extremely difficult.

When I first quit smoking it was easy... I just stopped buying cigarettes... only smoked when i was offered a smoke at a social occaision... Then I went into hospital a year ago, as I was seroxat which made me more suicidal so i needed the protection from myself that hospital is meant to offer... Whilst in there I started smoking heavily... at one point I was on 30 a day! Since leaving hospital I have found quitting very difficult... The psychological addiction is very strong and the withdrawal from nicotine I get when I sleep means that I'll wake up from nightmares highly anxious as that's what nicotine can do to you... Although at times I do enjoy smoking I need to quit as I can't afford it and my fiance has Asthma.
