Very nice this week, with a nice line in pathos and totally blowing out of the water my thoughts that you were the reincarnation of Edward Gorey. Hey ho said Rolly.

Swiv (decrepit postgrad)

that's actually quite a scary bedstead...

Bells are fine, they take longer to become clapped out than moist mechanical doo dads. It's all in the wrist, as the camp analogists say.

Strange, Munchkin, I thought this illustration was the most Gorey yet. Are you really moving to Glasgow? Whither Woking?

Hmm... I suppose the bedstead does look rather like something that ought to have a series of startled heads piked in a row, or an upended portcullis. Still, an Englishman's bed is his castle.

Sleep tight (it's the best way, I find).

'A is for Amy who fell down the stairs.
B is for Basil assaulted by bears...'

Gorey indeed: the banana episode was far mor violent smiley - winkeye.
This issue is just pleasantly disturbing smiley - ermsmiley - laugh

jwf, I am still here smiley - smiley just collecting my thoughts. I seem to have scattered them somewhat.

I've only just become aquainted with Edward Gorey and it all seems more frivolous at the mo'. And yes, I am off to Glasgow, although I still intend to be at the next Woking Beer Fest, for the Organ if nothing else. Oh, and I always find "Why for Woking?" to be th emore important question. smiley - winkeye

Munchkin, I have had many a good conversation with you over the time we've been on h2g2, though I think what I'm about to say is a first:

Ummm ...what?

I understood the words 'Edward Gorey', 'Glasgow' and 'Beer Fest'. The rest is a blur I'm afraid smiley - erm.

I wondered what that might mean to someone from beyond the gently lapping shores of Surrey... the organ is merely something magnificent that rises before the baying crowd who are sated by a few quick turns of the wrist. 'Woking' refers to the area of England where Chinese cooking holds sway. The area is also notorious for having been decimated by Martians in H.G. Well's 'War of the Worlds', a fact which current day Wokinsmen still celebrate. Paul Weller also memorialised the place in the song 'A Town Called Malice' and his album 'Stanley Road'. But the fact remains that Woking would be nothing without Brookwood cemetery, so all hail the dead of mid-west Surrey.

Hurrah! I have entirely confused someone by mearly mentioning the Giant Organ of Woking. smiley - biggrin

P.S. Its a Wurlitzer Organ. Does that help?

Yes. Thank you.

Now the "Why for Woking?" bit, if you could be so kind smiley - smiley.

Well, I currently live in Woking. Spimmie said Whither Woking and I tried to twist it to closer to the old chestnut of "B*gger Bognor!" (possibly said by George V but I'm not sure) but didn't really succeed. Anything else I can unravel for you? smiley - smiley

Nah... just have a beer for me smiley - biggrin.

I thought it was W for Woking... or is it 'up you'? Can take the Munchkin out of Woking but can't take... etc (not even with pliers).

The coming Eustace (if it gets through) is slightly Searley instead of Gorey this week. I do like Crumb but I don't think they'll ever be Crummy. As you know, Wowbagger, they tend towards Willie if anything, but don't we all.

That's quite enough smut for a Tuesday lunchtime; who got me started?

Incidently, my sources have just informed me that Radio 4 on Thursday of this week has their afternoon play all about Edward Gorey. I may well give it a listen, just to see what it is I have been wittering on about.
