Terve!

Good entry, on a fine subjectsmiley - smiley

You didn't mention it, but can we take it that the "au" should always be pronounced "ow"?

Another point for that final list of not-sauna characteristics might then be ones that are pronounced "sorna".

Terve mieheen,

Thanks,

Yes and then again no, "au" should be pronounced "au", but English speakers tend to use "ow", and its not that far off that you wouldn't be understood when you ask:

"Anteeksi, mutta missähän on lähin julkinen sauna?"

Terve, kaikki.

I think I'd have to disagree with you, Ukkeli. English speaking people (at least the ones I know) have a tendency to pronounce it "saw"-na. The pronounciation suggested by Pinniped does sound pretty spot on, using English pronounciation. It would then be "Sow"-na which has a distinct "au" (Finnish) rign to it.

What? I'm beeing disagreed with!smiley - laugh But I'll keep my stand that "Sow"-na is close, but not really real thing. It just has too much "o" in it.

I know it's got a bit too much of a "o" sound to it, but it's the closest I could think of...
