Hi Gwenniesmiley - biggrin, Ive just come back from visiting that site, its really good, but you to be a group or orginisation to join it. The cheapest membership is group= £50 up to £675 for large orginisation. It was well worth the visit though! We will fill in all these housing assn. forms, then see what happens, we will probably have to sell cheap in order to sell quickly! Do you know that I have never yet sold a house and came out with a profit!! Ah! well, how much the price of happiness, Hey that sounds good, might just write about that some day!

You don't have to join The Disability Alliance to obtain advice Smuder although they do provide an alternative service for members on a different telephone line. smiley - ok

Check out this link below. It gives details of their Rights Advice Line, which "is available to members of the public or for people giving advice to others". smiley - bigeyes

Hi Gwenniesmiley - biggrin I can remember years ago when I was self employed I had this small removal business, and I was hired by the local council to move this single parent with a small boy to a town some 30 miles along the coast. It transpired when I arrived to do the job that they were being evicted by the council, and the neighbours were so pleased they were going that they all Helped me load the van!! The house was so filthy I had to prise the cooker from the wall with a crow bar, due to the amount of grease holding it to the wall. The inside of the house was so smelly it was hard to breathe! Any way when I arrived at the new address, the council had given her A Brand New Flatsmiley - erm Yet there were many young decent couples waiting years for housing! Who says "grime" doesnt pay!!smiley - erm

We don't have rental housing availble from Local Councils in SA.smiley - sadface
The National Department of Housing does gets money to build RDP (Reconstruction and Development Program) housing for first-time home buyers. You are given a R15 000 (about £1 200) grant towards your first house (little boxes made of ticky-tacky) in an approved housing scheme. But that only buys you a one roomed house with bathroom about 35 square metres in area - about the size of a two car garage. smiley - yikes If you want more than that, you must fund it yourself - or get a morgage loan. smiley - groan

Regrettably, poor people get in over their heads with an unaffordable morgage, lose their job or fall behind on the payments. The morgagor forecloses and the house is sold off. The poor resident is out on the street again and, because they received a first-time home owner grant, can never get it again - ever! smiley - cry

*smiley - run after squealing Gwennie in an effort to give her face a wet washcloth wipe*

I have been to SA Three times while in the RN, in fact got involved with a nurse in Durban? who I met up with again on the way home. Also met a few Brit Ex Pats who were working out there, and showed me all the Good places to go. The first time I was there we had to watch out in case we upset the rules that were in force at the time? but on my third visit I noticed a change. I seem to recall a pub called The Navigaters Den, being a good place to visit. We also spent time in Capetown, Freetown & Simonstown, All in all I think it was a wonderful country.smiley - coolsmiley - ok

Well, well, Smudger!
I did my National Service in the SA Navy in '72 and met more than a few RN types in Simonstown as I was in the Main Signal Office.
When were you here? Time for another visit to see the change?

I was there in 1969 and again in 1971, I would really like to go back there again, I really liked it there, especially Durban! Im sure there has been a big change, but if I was 100% fit I would had liked to live there. No chance now Im afraid, after a bad fall at work while in the ambulance service my working life is finished now, so am stuck at home on disability benefit. Still I have the memories!smiley - winkeye

Pandapig, you really are just a little too self-important. Just an idle observation. . .
