Tales from the Mausoleum Club

This was an excellent short series of comic radio plays produced on Radio 4 around 1987 each parodying the plot of a famous novel and linking the plot to a member of the infamous club (pronounced "mOW-zo-lay-um") who tells the morbid story. Particular favorites of mine were 'The Turn of the Knob', and 'Heart of Skegness'.

The first series linked the episodes by a prospective new member wishing to join the Victorian club, until he realises the terrible secret which is shared by all the existing members. The second series if I remember correctly has the episodes linked by the investigation into the disappearance of the prospective member in the first series. But it was a long time ago, and I can't remember much. Apparently they are being re-aired on BBC radio7 in June 2003 (if you can get that radio station)

Ian Brown and James Hendrie both wrote this series and its successor - The Fall of the Mausoleum Club, which is just as good.
