A Conversation for Fighting the Zeppelin

Dan

I recently picked up Len Deighton's excellent epic novel "Winter - A Berlin Family 1899-1945". One of the main characters is a member of a Zeppelin crew and one of their raids is described in detail. He describes large numbers of Zeppelins flying over together on the raids (I'd always had an image of one lone airship at a time for some reason). They would gather over the North Sea just over the horizon from Britain, then wait for hours until darkness gave them the cover they needed. Quite a gripping story actually (as is the rest of the book) if anyone's interested.

Who?

Night ws not a major factor other than on the morale of the population targeted. Zeppelins were nigh on immune to anti-aircraft measures until the middle of 1917.
