As someone who is very quick to pick up on new ideas and (now) an expert on HTML, I have to say well done. smiley - ok

I taught myself HTML from something in "the Rough Guide to the Internet" years ago which was very much like what you have written here.

My only criticism here is that you only provide the link to CSS in the element. It would be nice to say that, as of HTML 4.0, the "simple formatting" you have described (specifically the tag and other things like <CENTER&gtsmiley - winkeye has been dropped in favour of CSS and more content-specific tags, such as , and then add the link to the entry on CSS there. JAT smiley - biggrin

You've also inspired me to write an entry on XHTML (HTML's fussy and tidy little brother, which my web site is written in) after my project is over on Friday.

I'm busy writing an entry with the difference between XHTML and HTML. I haven't done much to it for a while, though.

I've started with HTML from "the Rough Guide to the Internet", too. I've still got it somewhere.

The CSS reference was added by the sub-editor. I wanted to keep the entry as simple as possible, and I thought CSS was too advanced.

I don't think the article should say anything _about_ CSS per se, more just point out that these days it's more acceptable to separate content and presentation, and provide that link.

Good luck with the XHTML thing! I'm not going to steal your thunder if you're already working on it... I've got plenty of ideas of my own for entries, anyway! smiley - cheers

Good work, R'win. It's the kind of thing people would want to know...

I see there's no article on XML and the X-Family of concepts (XSLT,XPath,XLink,XPointer,XSchema etc) so I might have to get to work on one of those. I'll link to A981623's copy if it's in the EG by then.

Good luck! smiley - smiley
