A Conversation for Curry
Chilli and Macho

Sorry to mix my cultures - I don't know of an equivalent in Indian culture - but I have found a number of folks from various cultures (including a South Indian young man) who link "macho" behaviour to eating "hot" (chilli hot) food.
Silly really - but then I can remember doing just the same when younger & less wise (arguably..)
Most of my ho- ho- hot food experiences have been in the UK. I have enjoyed a wide variety of foods which as a pleb I still call curry in India/Pakistan/Sri-Lanka my problem with food there has always been the other one...
More a reflection on my sensitive english gut than anything else of course.
Another myth is that Indian food is hot to disguise meat that is "off". The only "off" curry I ever ate was in the works canteen in Hatfield (Hertfordshire).
