"...in sans serif fonts (such as the one you are reading now)" - this is a big assumption! For example the reader may be using the "Plain" skin, which uses a serif font. Or, they may be listening to the page on a screen reader...
These are frivolous arguments, but none the less valid. In print you can make that sort of assumption, on the web you cannot. Who knows, the next "Default" skin after everyone gets thoroughly sick of Brunel could use a serif (or even fancy) font!
