I couldn't tell from your photos whether there were any actual trees in the park. I did a bit of searching on the Internet, and found photos of some of the landscaped gardens, including Sally Bower

There was a bit of an uproar when they named the main thoroughfare from Strand Street to Paradise Street 'Thomas Steers Way' (Steers being an architect of note, now surrounded by concrete steps, Starbucks and bars...tsk tsk.)

They have turned a truly neglected piece of land into something nice(r), especially at Christmas time.

I'm not likely to ever see it in person, but I'm a huge fan of nicely landscaped parks. smiley - love

Yes, on the day I visited it was so busy it was difficult to take a photo without people in it, but it was great to see the park being so well used on a lovely summer's day smiley - biggrin
