I find the best strategy is to share my fruit and veg growing in the garden!
I get various s on my pear tree, wood pigeons on the lawn, and crows and jays in the veg patch. As long as I get my share as well, I don't mind...

Thanks sprout
We've totally given up with our currant bushes now as the birds always got them at the exact moment they ripened, and have allowed some wild raspberries to spread into the wild bit at the top. We've also got some wild strawberries as ground cover, which both look pretty and give the birds some other food.
