Never use a real hamster?? Come now, the game would have no tension if they was no risk of horrid death to a furry animal. A live hamster is essential, and the cuter the better.

Hamster Throwing feels like it evolved out of a warm-up activity for dramatic groups, in order to strengthen the improv skills. As such, it's actually quite imperative that a real hamster /not/ be used, as that would negate the improv.
Either that, or the sarcasm got filtered out somewhere between your keyboard and my screen. You know, whatever. It's all good.

Of course, it originated in a rehersal game, but I was talking about the Olympic version.
