A simple way is to eat fresh vegetables, as it will end up costing less than your frozen pizza, and you'll feel fab !!!

Absolutely! And you can use your veg to make soup, stew, or curry, which will last three to six nights, making your money go farther, or the meal can be frozen to provide healthy, cheap fast food! Almost anything you make at home will be better-tasting and cheaper than the equivalent store-bought food.

Another food-related saving involves giving up caffeine, or bringing a thermos with you. The prices most places charge for coffee are beyond a joke. Sadly, hot chocolate is more expensive still, making it non-viable as an alternative.

the fire and the rose are one

I agree -- you can save a TON by giving up Starbucks, or whatever your source of ready-made coffee is. I generally make a carafe of coffee in the morning. I take some to work in a thermal mug. Hubby has some when he gets up -- that's about half a carafe down. Then we dump the rest into a pitcher and keep it in the fridge. Drink it cold instead of sodas or on mornings when I'm too rushed to make a fresh carafe. A pound of GOOD, whole coffee beans costs a little more than 2 Starbucks drinks, and lasts for at least 2 or 3 weeks, depending on your rate of consumption.

In general, I've found that avoiding "convenience" foods is key. Eat whole foods, take lunches to work. It takes some planning, but it's effective.

As far as coffee goes, you can save a packet by roasting your own beans.
Pre-roasted beans from "UK Gourmet Coffee Chain" are about £10 a kilo. Unroasted beans from small importer are about £3 a kilo. I've saved about £100 in the last six months by doing this. smiley - biggrin
