Hello dear editor,
I meant to change the opening paragraph but I was a bit lazy and missed my chance. Do you think you could when you edit this?
Could you change the opening to say "Scotland has more than one distinct language. There is English, the language of newspapers, TV programmes and the internet, Gaelic, the ancient Celtic language of the Western Highlands and Island and one other." to replace "Scotland has its own distinct language. And its not Gaelic either."
Makes it less flippant. Thanks smiley - smiley

A numpty - an idiot, someone of limited intelligence. i.e. the guy who wrote that dictionary must be a right numpty

Bez (arguaby the finest figure of a man ever found wearing Bez's underwear) <underpants>

Don't know if it's a Scots term, but the word 'numpty' is also used a lot down here in Yorkshire.

The effect of Scots and English ceasing to be two distinct languages and morphing into one continuum is that there is now quite a large amount of overlap. i.e. Words that might once have been Scots are now spoken further south and vice versa. Part of what has made English such an interesting, if posibly badly named (smiley - winkeye) language.
