Why not try Cape May.
It's just a small hop down the parkway to the end. In town is not just for stuffy antique hunters anymore.( Although you still can find beautiful pieces if that's what you like.) The beach drive restaurants are leaning toward more trendy fare. At night Beach Drive has plenty going on to relieve boredom. Hot disco spot it's not, but a decent Jazz atmosphere reigns.
If you'd like a more back to nature vaca head across the island to the lighthouse & nature trails, or farther over to the Canal and watch the Cape-May Lewis Ferry come and go from a quiet spot(except for the mosquitos)and watch the waves roll in. You can also rent kayaks,or surf right from the front beach.
The small boardwalk offers kitchy beach stores,a small arcade (for the kiddies),candy shops ,pizza, gyros, fruit and frozen cokes.
I've gone there since before I was out of high school and I've seen it change from run-down to pretentious to family friendly and now leaning toward trendy. I love it there. It will relieve at least one day of boredom (even to the most jaded) guaranteed. I personnaly spend at least 4 weeks there (not consecutively)when ever my schedule allows. Be prepared to walk (it is the least dangerous form of travel). If you are a bit more brave you could rent bikes or take a horse drawn carriage tour. My favorite is finding a patch of sand and parking there with a picnic lunch,a couple of shovels, a bucket, mp3,and sun lotion for the day. Anyway you chose, enjoy the day!
