Free Diving Record

The free diving record mentioned in the entry is already out of date. The international association of free divers recently recognised Audrey Mestre's 170m practice dive on October 9 as the new world record after she died in the official attempt on October 12.
The previous record holder, mentioned in the link from this entry, was her husband.
She had previously captured her husbands record by diving to 166 meters on October 4, 2002.
Current official IAFD records can be found at http://www.iafdusa.com/ofrec.htm

Hi NAITA,
Thanks for that information, I have only just noticed it.
I did say that Free Diving is dangerous and things can go wrong and often do. This is a very good example.
