A Conversation for Hypoxia, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Drowning
CO and Hangovers

It's interesting that Carbon Monoxide build up is implicated here in hangover headaches. I had always thought that this was caused by a combination of dehydration, alcohol induced hypoglycaemia and trace toxic by-products of fermentation in the drinks. Are the CO levels in a smokey pub really high enough to have a significant effect several hours later in the morning after?
Subjective I know, but it would also imply that smokers, with higher base levels of CO, would get worse hangovers. As an ex-smoker I haven't noticed my hangovers have improved since quiting!
