I was just wondering if you knew the actual Dutch meaning of the word: 'Stoep'?
As far as I know it means pavement or door-step. Do you know why this word was used?

stoep sitting sounds a lot like sit ins protests of flower power generation in 60s.

Stoep here got a new meaning as a paved place to sit or walk. The old Cape Dutch farmhouses had a stoep running the full length of the front with the front door in the middle and a bench at each end under a trellis covered with vines to protect you from the sun.
I missed out on the Flower Power generation in the 60s. By the time I was old enough, it was out of fashion...
