We have something similar to the Stoep in the UK, belive it or not. The are built a little like Bus Shelters, but on the pavement, facing out to sea at "Bracing" seaside resorts. You often see elderly couples in them, one of whom may be knitting, or not, but they both gaze out to sea, not usually speaking, just thinking thoughts, watching the seabirds, Stoep-Sitting in all but name!!
