A Conversation for Devon Rex Cats
Allergy friendly?

It's quite common for people who are allergic to cats not to be allergic to Devon Rexes. Devons have a curly coat because they lack the normal outer coat - they just have the undercoat. It's the outer coat that sheds and that traps most of the dust. This is why fewer people are allergic to them.

Thanks, but I'd still like to know if anyone has a *personal* experience of this - there are different kinds of allergic reactions

I'm pretty much allergic to any animal. However, the Devons we have are the least bad cats that I've ever had for allergies. They're also quite cute. It's due to the lack of hair. If you want a hairless cat, try a Sphinx (aka Mr Bigglesworth in Austin Powers).

Eh - not completely hairless I think they're ugly..
Webber0075 - what kind of allergic reaction do you have with cats? I get eczema and runny nose...

I get bad hives (from dust mites that live eveywhere - especially on cat hair) and I get a runny nose, congestion, coughing etc. With previous cats I developed almost instant rashes and immediate sneezing and snuffling. The Devons do not provoke the aforementioned reaction in me.

Thanks! *wondering if there would be a Devon owner somewhere in the neighbourhood she could cat-sit for*
