I must say that I found Heraklion (I'm stuck on that spelling, sorry!) a thoroughly pleasant city, and I'd happily visit again. That's despite the fact that my visit saw me stuck there for most of a day and night with virtually no money and a heavy set of luggage!

Got to be honest - I love Iraklion....yep, its grubby, fairly unattractive and noisy but its full of life. There's a lot of entertainment to be had sitting at one of the ouzeris near the main sea front roundabout and watching people trying to figure out how the heck to join it!!!
Simple pleasures.
Just love the place!

Why, was it busy where you were there? I had no problem with the airport.

As the airport was full, first we had to queue outside for 45 minutes before we were allowed to queue inside, and on entering the building we joined first the queue to get luggage tags, then later the queue to hand the bags in, followed by the security queue and after 3 hours of queuing we made it just in time to join the queue to board the aircraft. Which would have been fine if it was just my wife and I, but the children were not happy.
