I have been trying to learn Japanese for a while and atleast as far as I can tell they avoid pronouns but do have a word for he/she that is about as exceptable as any pronoun is however when I got a bit more advanced in my studies i found it litteraly means that person. sorry if I'm in coherent but it is 1:34 am and I am afraid I would forget if I wait till morning

Well, if there's a single word that means "that person", then that word is a pronoun, because it is a word that stands in place of a noun.
