A Conversation for One-hit Wonders
The Honeycombs

The English rock quintet The Honeycombs recently got a writeup in "Uncut", covering their lone hit, "Have I the Right?" (peaked at No. 5 in the USA in 1964). They said they wanted to be like the Stones, but the public had them pegged as squeaky clean. As proof of the power of a hit, I could immediately sing the chorus to the song, having not heard it in several decades.
P.S. Don't ever call Elton John a one hit wonder on a public Internet forum.
P.P.S. Don't play John Tesh music in a bar with pool tables.

When I was at Primary School, I had the good fortune to have met the Honeycombes when they came to visit the school. Honey lived only 4 houses away from the school. I envied her, as to me, she was the first woman drummer I had heard of.
Yes, they were squeeky clean in image and in real life. Being like The Stones? No, I don't think so.However, saying that, the Stones just grew old disgracefully. Maybe if The Honeycombes produced something that could be classified as Rock, they may have had a chance.

"However, saying that, the Stones just grew old disgracefully."
The surprise is that they grew old at all, given their lifestyle. Humor writer Dave Barry says their idea of a workout is to get through an entire song on only one cigarette.
Interesting about your meeting the Honeycombs, small world here on the Net. I grew up in Oklahoma, USA, I don't think they ever made it there. Incidentally, is it spelled "Honeycombes" in the UK? My book doesn't, but maybe its a UK/USA difference.
