A Conversation for Night Photography
Alternative to cable

My film camera, a Canon EOS, does a fine job in most respects, but has one significant downfall: no place to connect a cable release. To work around this, I set the camera on a tripod, set up the exposure, and then hit the shutter delay (that you normally use to scurry into the shot). This gave the camera 10 seconds to recover from my ham-handed fumbling before opening the shutter automatically. Worked quite well - I got a terrific shot of the Duomo in Florence, Italy at dusk that took a 15 second exposure.

Canon fixed this on later models - my EOS1000 has no facility; my EOS5oe does.
