Hey Snockerty,
Excellent article ... may be just what's needed to get my bum off the sofa and get back out with my old camera gear.
Great tip about telling the developer that the film includes night shots.
Question : Can you recommend a high-street or postal film processing service that handles night photograph development well?
Cheers man!

No.
I've worked for several of them and they're all going to suffer from the same problems. They're geared up to deal with the "average" shots which usually includes holiday snaps, weddings and babies. Lots of night-time images will nearly always fool either the printer or the negative cutter.
Having said that, if they do the developing and printing on-site you may be able to have a word with whoever operates the printer. They see the "average" shots all day every day and might be more than happy to have something a little more creative to deal with.

Develop them at home! Come on, it's not that difficult...
I do E-6 (slides) at home, and black and white, and apart from XP-2 I haven't really had to go to any commercial labs.
E-6 only takes an hour to do at home, of which about 40 minutes is the development and 20 minutes to set up.
Key: Complain about this post
