Having been away from Sheffield for almost 40 years I hadn't thought about this incident which my parents told me about for a very long time. I'm glad it's now recorded somewhere that is accessible to so many. It certainly wasn't mentioned when I was at school but that may be because the school wasn't too close to the park. The story I was told was that the plane was trying to put down on the garss but pulled up when the children were seen, however neither of my parents would have been eye witnesses. Whatever the truth these 10 young men, like so many others, lost their lives for a cause they believed was greater than themselves, each and every one deserves to be remembered.
Thank you
