.... and I wondered why, at the end of the youth discos I used to go to, it was never me snogging the lovely XXXX XXXXXXXX in the middle of the dance floor. She'd be with him, sporty and tall and I'd be at the back of the room - a slow Whitney Houston number blaring away, rubbing salt in the wounds - trying to look cool and not at all bothered, furiously smoking a cigarette.
Sam.

Oh, and I forgot the white socks, the little gold chain that went with the tie-pin and the careless application of cheap hair gel that my longish hair didn't need.
No change there then.

Ahh, did you perhaps wear
Old Spice... or was it Brut 33?
Your socks were white? This was presumably before they became luminous green/yellow/pink?

I think it was Old Spice (and lots of it). But I *have* adopted an 80's-ish scent to this day - Tabac. It's German. And it's manly.

sam, were you like me then?
got over it by walking home alone and bitching to yourself, trying to set the world to rights amd hoping no-one noticed you being bitter and alone on the edge of that oh-so big dance floor when you were back in school?
nah, me either.
i'm still bitter now.
but i just dont remember what she looks like any more.
thats the only thing i truly am bitter about.
she's married, he sounds mr super nice - so hoo-frigging ray for him. he got the girl. they have 2 kids, she doesnt work, she was so intelligent as well.
isn't it amazing he we fail to cope with our emotional baggage, even so long after the fact?
