there are a few great things to add to the motley crew of limp lettuce/cucumber/tomatoes.
:
Nuts-cashews are great-and provide protein.
Cheese-again,good for protein, Cheddar, low fat if you like-or full fat if you don't, Feta or Parmegan or even a little triangle of the spready stuff.
Olives.
Peppers (esp. yellow).
Raisins.
Apple or Pineapple.
and of course don't underestimate the importance of drying the salad stuff after washing.
oh and a little salt, garlic and oil trickled round the inside of your salad bowl in good too.
p.s. crispy bacon or for the veggies baco bits is a hit too.

Toasted pine-nuts are great too (although probably not trendy any more - sooooooo last millennium dahling)

Also: grated carrot, red or white cabbage and raddish add a bit of crunch and colour.
