This was a lovely piece. Chaplin ! Stan and Ollie win every time.
My dad always told me that Stan only cried when he couldn't think of any other reaction. As you say, their chemistry was pure magic. I didn't realise the Stan's sad home life.
I once visited the States and drove over the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Guess which song we sang for most of the way!

Chaplin was very different from L&H it's true, yet his own genius must not be discounted, while he didn't quite have their charm... I read that Stan always hated the crying-game but as it worked etc.etc...
