I more or less agree with the content of the piece on Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. However one small but significant point from an ex-patriot Barrovian is that yes we are proud, but NO we are not insular.
The geography does lend itself to be being miles away from anywhere of any great size, however be a stranger in a bar or club in Barra and you will see how none insular the people of Barrow are. This cannot be said of a lot of towns.
In a week that Barrow is making the news for all the wrong reasons (Legionnaires disease) I am feeling a little home sick. Although I left 11 years ago. I can imagine the community spirit of my fellow Barrovians being formidable at this time.
