The Acrostic Poetry Challenge: Parasols
Created | Updated Jul 11, 2010
The Acrostic Poem has been a long-standing challenge, mainly between B'Elana and PedanticBarSteward. However, we've decided to open up the idea to anyone who would like to take part, as a regular poetry challenge.
The word chosen each time is the Telegram Game's current word, so if you join in or subscribe to the telegram game you'll know as soon as it's announced. When you've completed your poem, submit it by posting to a new thread below, and we'll put the best of them together in the next issue.
Have fun!

Beatrice
Pina Colada, and Sex on the Beach
Are garnished with teeny umbrellas
Raspberry daiquiris, Harvey Wallbangers
Are mixed by some skilled cocktail fellas
Sip in the sunshine, rest by the pool
Or take a short stroll by and by
Look out for that pointy stick served in your drink
So don't let it poke out your eye!

Perhaps I'm mad, perhaps I'm a bum,
A mad dog who goes out in the midday sun,
Reclining on beaches with plenty of beer,
And sod all to worry 'bout, let alone fear.
Some say I'll burn - some say I will fry,
Others are certain that soon I will die.
Let all of those who auger disaster and doom,
Sit quiet in the shade, while I sunbathe at noon.

"Polka Dots are all the hype"
Anna told me via Skype.
"Retail sells them everywhere
And the price is even fair.
Still, if you go to the beach,
Or the pool, no matter which,
Lest you burn your skin so fair
Sunscreen and t-shirt you should wear."
