"The vocal chords are then strongly approximated," - are you sure you don't mean "attenuated"? smiley - biggrin

No, I imagine 2legs *does* mean "approximated", which means "brought close together" (ie. into proximity). Although it sounds like it should mean "estimated", my dictionary gives it no such meaning.

If you "attenuated" your vocal cords, you would be making them thin or weak, which wouldn't be a lot of use for keeping food out of the trachea (windpipe.) Again, it sounds like "attenuated" should mean "placed under tension", but it doesn't.

Set a pedant to catch a pedant, it seems!

"Attenuated" can also mean "shortened", which would fit into this context... The use of "Approximated" in the context of "to bring together" is largely depreciated... smiley - smiley

Or did you mean 'deprecated'?

Anyway, the voicebox thingies are vocal cords, not vocal chords. Vocal chords require more than one singer smiley - smiley
