It's cold, wet, windy and you're eaten alive by midges which are immune to even "Jungle Strength" insect repellant. The best place to stay is to pitch a tent on a cliff face a few miles outside Portree... Leave the alone and they won't cause you any trouble. I loved it!

We agree, though only one of us has been there so far. It's breathtakingly beautiful, the views from Kyleakin Castle down Loch Alsh to Eilean Donan backed by the Five Sisters or from Raasay Island across the Narrows and the Cuilin Mountains. Then there's Dunvegan and Waternish Point in the North. The Midges are to be feared it's true, though an internal rub down with Malt is supposed to do the trick.
