A Conversation for Public Transport Etiquette
Metro
Trendy upbeat really catchy name, like Clint, or Brian, no, Alfy would be good. Or John. Started conversation Apr 7, 2002
The most important thing when travelling on
the French Metro is a stout pair of shoes.
A towel is of advantage also, to remove the
perspiration which ensues whilst walking the
several kilometers that the Metro tracks (underground)
cover. Entering the Metro is often hampered by the
presence of a large roller shutter door, indicating that
the Metro is in its standard state, known as "strike".
The stout shoes can be used to kick the door, which
will emit a gratifying "BONG.. Bong.. bong..ng" sound,
as it echoes down the line, but usually no-one comes
to open it. If someone does come, he will often be
garbed as a "Gendarme". He will exhibit a marked lack
of understanding, and a willingness to offer a lift in
his vehicle.
In such cases, the stout pair of shoes should be rapidly
exchanged for a pair of running spikes.
