It depends on the species. For example, Ixodes scapularis (the black-legged tick) is between 2mm and 2.5mm long in the adult male, and 3mm to 3.5mm for the adult female...
Perhaps you might consider changing the title of the article to "What is the duration of a tick?"

Thought about that, however i would have to rewrite some of the article and in it's present state the title is correct. Tick can mean many things, this is just one of them. This was discussed slightly in the Peer Review thread, however, I think it is fine just how it is.

I was going to add that for me a tick is usually about half-an-inch long, (not including the little bit going the other the way that you start off with.) but I had a maths teacher in school whose ticks were MASSIVE, like, three inches or something and sometimes they'd even tear through the page 'cos he'd do them really quick! But I never saw many of them 'cos I wasn't very good at adding up. His crosses were big too. And when he wrote "See me" at the bottom.
