How many of you do map work frequently?
Well, the map is obviously broken down into degrees. Further on it is broken down into minutes (1/60 of a degree) and seconds (1/60 of a minute) Well, to draw them you draw a little mark next to the number. 15 degrees, 5 minutes, 12 seconds, would look like this
15° 5` 12``
Those little marks are known as ticks.
Hence the saying, be back in two ticks (the marking for 1 second)
