Real Mainers often eat lobster just because it's so plentiful there. But I've heard it said that, based on demand, the state food of Maine should be not lobster, but Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

I live near Bar Harbor, where all the tourists go to eat lobster in the summer. "We locals" DO eat lobster, but because we're locals we generally know someone related to the lobster industry and get them at a reduced price.

I live in Bar harbor, and as such, have never had lobster and in my adult life have never had Mac and Cheese. I also work at a convenience store in BH and only sell about one box of Mac and Cheese a week, or less.
