CS gas is not a misnomer -- at least, not the "CS" part. It was named for (or perhaps by) its developers, B.B. Corson and R.W. Stoughton, in 1928.

Yeah, actually I meant the "gas" part is a misnomer because it's a finely divided solid.

BUT that's an *excellent* piece of supplementary information, TL, thanks! smiley - cheers I did a bit of background on the stuff before submitting the entry and I didn't see that mentioned anywhere.

(Just wish you'd told me this in Peer Review so I could have included it... any editors watching this thread? any chance of putting this info in?)
