I personally think Giger is one of the most gifted fine artists of our time, as well as a masterful illustrator.
His work touches both our nightmares and our sense of sexuality in a way no mere illustrator can (nor would dare to!).
Unfortunately, I find myself constantly defending his work to people who were trained in the fine art propaganda of believing "realistic technique has no artistic value or sense of artistic depth."
The belief that just because an artist's work elicits words like "cool", doesn't take away from the fact his work has merit.
