There's a somewhat new (I say somewhat... s'been around for a while now) phenomenon that's appeared on the glorious Internets. File distribution services, particularly for game mods, patches, demos and the like now allow you to join a virtual queue, waiting in "line" until it's your turn to download.
Steam does this, too. Joining a full game server requires you to wait in line until someone else has kindly been disconnected/ragequit/banned/actually left of their own accord.
It's like all the fun of standing around staring awkwardly at the walls, but without the real life sense of accompishment.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
