Bagpuss, Muse of something or other mentioned in the "Soccer" thread "They think it's all over - it is now" (Hurst's fourth goal against Germany in 1966 World Cup Final), which, while it was certainly a good moment of football, was really only a capper on a match already won. What makes it a classic moment was the classic commentary.

Commentary like that can turn a dull moment into a great moment, and a great moment into a classic. Good commentary can even make you remember a time when nothing actually happened.

This is not an attempt to start a "Colemanballs" list: humourous efforts along the lines of "The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willie" are not really what I'm thinking of.

Anyone else care to share a moment of commentary which captured a moment of sport so completely that you can't divorce the moment from the words?

I mentioned a few on the 'Tennis' thread about 'The Tiebreak' - the one which captured the moment for me was John Barrett saying, 'Surely there's nothing left to happen in this tiebreak; everything has.', at 11-all.

Of course, we all know that far more did happen...
