The article omits to mention the chopper phenomenon was born in sunny California and made famous by members of 'outlaw' motorcycle clubs. Choppers were Harleys or Indians, long before the Japanese imports hit the streets. If you look carefully at the 1954 movie 'The Wild One' you can see the Brando character 'Johnny' and his boys ride stock bikes but their rivals led by Lee Marvin as 'Chino' ride chopped bikes. A whole chapter of Sonny Barger's recent bestselling autobiography 'Hell's Angel' is devoted to this subject.

I ride a Yamaha Virago, and I love it. Yeah, yeah, I know it's Japanese, but those twin Vs sure sound nice.
