Two girls in my graduating class in high school were named Tanquanjanika. Hard to imagine two moms coming up with that. A Vietnamese transfer student was named Mai Ding Dhong, and the salutatorian of the class was named Winston Butz. Must have been the water...

There seem to be a lot of Asian names that cross into English very poorly. Mai Ding Dhong is probably the funniest ive ever seen, and then there is the legendary Hung Wei Low (or however its spelled)

IRL the top Catholic in the Phillipines is called Cardinal Sin and the Managing Director of the Australian Submarine Corporation is a Hans Ohff *both true*.

There's a lad at college with me called Nicky Purves lol...for as long as I've known him, he's gone by the name of Nicky Purvis. "Ah yes...an unfortunate bit of naming" said his tutor as he was informed that he shouldn't read the boy's name directly from the register...

Hmmmm, used to speak a lot to a guy on the phone in a previous job who pronounced his name `Bob Skols` .... then I saw his entry in the company`s telephone list as R Scholes

Speaking of trans-literal names, I knew a chinese guy last year who simply doubled up his family name and called himself Chen Chen. Unfortunately, he didn't realise that his Japanese neighbour translated this as 'small penis'
