Photography was first dreamt up in fiction, way back in the 18th century, i'll find the reference to it for you and post it here.

And of course HG Wells invented loads of stuff, moonshots, lasers, germ warfare etc...

I struggled with the title - I limited myself to the 19th an 20th centuries, and to things which could be summed up in one or two words created by the author, or by the authors own name.

You are right about HG Wells, but I could not think of one example of his visions which had passed into the langauge like that.

It was a mammoth entry, and I had to prune it somehow!
