As the good book(s) by DNA tell us, the question was eventually discovered to be: "What is six times nine?" . We immediately respond with "54" (in base ten).
Just worth noting, that if you operate in base 13, the answer is (as it always was, and should be) .... 42.

Apparently, I saw somewhere, DNA strenuously denied that this is why he picked it - it was only later that people pointed out it *could* make sense.
I think he was rather annoyed, actually!
