Best way to fail as a pop-band

Nothing quite says 'loser' as much as signing up for one of those 'pre-fab' bands. As the band members have not actually had any real life experience together (that is appreciating each other's musical strengths and allowing for any weaknesses and just working together on the way to recognition and success), they've just been manufactured by the industry to exploit a market niche.
Nett result? Everyone's aiming for superstardom at the expense of everyone else, no-one writes the music or lyrics so they don't function as a team at the most basic level as musicians. The two basic rules appear to be:
-look good for the video clip
-be prepared to quit as soon as feasible
