I'm glad someone wrote this article! I, too, work at LANL, but I've never really attempted to write about this place (I'm afraid I would be unfairly biased in various directions). I used to live in one of those "Denver Steel" houses, aka. "them boxes" near the High School, but relocated to Santa Fe in 1998. You did a great job on the article, very clear and informative. I still say there isn't really any good places to eat up here, but I guess that's just a matter of personal taste and/or intestinal fortitude. The number of Chinese/Oriental food restaurants outnumbering any other kind of restaurant (including McDonald's) in Los Alamos County is a little-known and less-understood phenomenon. You're right-on about the social life in Los Alamos, which is why I (being single at the time) lasted only 13 months on the hill.
Kudos on the nice article! Perhaps a separate article on the Cerro Grande fire would not be amiss ... hmmm. Possible collaborations ... if you're interested, drop me a line at my H2G2 page/message center.

I only came here after the Cerro Grande Fire, and wasn't sure what
to write about it (especially since the guidelines advise
against information that will become dated). What would be good is
an article on how to cope when a forest fire hits town. A collaboration among Cerro Grande survivors would probably be good.
